Himshikha aspires to improve the standard of living of rural farmers through their income growth by increasing agricultural productivity. Organic farming reduces the cost of production to the farmers as they do not use costly insecticides and pesticides but organic manure. Farmers also get rid of debts needed to buy insecticides and pesticides.
Himshikha would set up farmers’ committees and empower them towards self development and the development of their community by providing them financial support, training and technical assistance.
Himshikha is also providing a fair trade premium on their organic cotton produce over conventional cotton. As an example at the Ambika Organic Farms – a project carried out by Himshikha, the premium is going to the “Himshikha 1 Kishanvikas Samiti” (a village level committee of farmers) account which would be used in conducting welfare activities of the member farmers and their families.
Himshikha also endeavors to enhance rural development by conducting programmes such as rural savings and credit. |
